The summer of 2024 will always and forever be remembered for its late evenings gathered around my sister’s television engrossing ourselves in the Paris games. I’ve had this idea for family halloween costumes since July and even though i was outvoted by the rest of my family, they decided to humor me and participate in a fun weekend photo shoot instead.
Simone Biles
AMERICAN GYMNAST AND GOLD MEDAL WINNER
The greatest of all time needs no introduction but it wouldn’t be a summer 2024 Paris Olympic Games recap without Simon Biles! She won four gold medals this year so we had to include those in our costume (made from 1 inch ribbon and cardstock). Just add a USA themed leotard and barefeet and Olive was all set!
Anthony Ammirati
French Pole Vaulter
Anthony Ammirati is a French pole vaulter who had a tragic ending during his competition this summer at the Paris games when his crotch hit the crossbar, knocking it down and disqualifying him. Will was the obvious choice for this role, but we decided to go with a more censored version than what went viral on YouTube this summer. Will wore blue shorts and a tank he already owned. I added the France and Adidas logo printed on iron on transfer paper and then we pinned on a CENSORED sign. And the “pole” is actually a ceiling paint brush extender!
Tom Daley
British diver and knitting ENTHUSIAST
One of the greatest divers of all time, Tom Daley has infamously been known to knit while watching his teammates compete or resting between his own events at both the Paris and Tokyo Olympic games.
I knew Liam would be perfect as Tom Daley as Liam is also very restless and has recently been seen reading books at his brother’s soccer game, looking up from time to time to watch a play then going right back to his book.
Just add knitting gear, a silver medal, and British swim trunks!
Racheal “Raygun” Gunn
Australian break dancer
There was never a question of who in our family would be casted as Raygun, the Australian breakdancer who took the world by storm during the 2024 Olympics. Bear is our best dancer and is always open to trying a new routine or sport in front of large crowd.
They make “Raygun” track suits for adults but I had a hard time finding one for kids but this green Old Navy track suit and matching hat worked great. I added Australian labels I printed on my home printer on sticker paper.
Stephen Nedoroscik
“the Pommel horse guy” American GYMNAST
Stephen Nedoroscik became an internet sensation when his pommel horse routine helped the US Mens team win their first Olympic medal in 16 years. He’s been nicknamed “the Clark Kent” of gymnastics as the throws off his thick glasses moments before competing his routine. Ziggy at age 3 was more than happy to put on mommy’s blue light glasses to reprise the role of Stephen and paired with red leggings and a short sleeve version of the USA leotard.
Ilana Maher
Rugby Player, SI swimsuit cover model
I was so excited to dress as Ilana Maher as she has become one of my favorite people to follow on Instagram and TikTok. She is a motivation to women and I was honored to replicate her opening ceremonies look. I wore these jeans, my Nike sneakers, a blue striped shirt tucked in and this Ralph Lauren dupe jacket I got for a fraction of the price versus what the original jacket sells for.
I always make a mock up on Canva with all my ideas for the outfits and to also give me an idea of how they will look together.
Here are the links to all the pieces I bought to make this family costume work. I had a total family budget of $250 and by pulling some pieces from our own closet I was able to stay close to budget!
No matter if they won a medal or not, all six of these Olympians are the greatest of all time and pure gold in our hearts! Halloween everyone!
