Hello world! I hope everyone has been having a fun and relaxing summer. After sweating profusely for most of June and spending most of the month dunked in a bucket of ice water, I have decided now that it is a new month, I will get back into the swing of things and do some much needed sewing. I decided to start off by refashioning some of my “Opps” pieces: those garments that didn’t quiet make the cut. (Ha! make the cut! Get it?! sewing humor). Now I know I usually only blog about the fabulous creative, well sewn master pieces that I do. But the honest truth is there are some huge fails that come along from time to time. A lot of the time actually. For example this stunning number seen here:
You see what happened was this. I bought 2 yards of the beautiful solid pink voile from Five Eighth Seams that I was going to turn into a Soho Blouse from See Kate Sew. (It looks orange in the Iphone photo above but its pink. Kinda like cotton candy pink.) This was actually my second attempt at this same pattern. Each one had an odd “scoop” in the gathering and the scoop fell right above my stomach. Not so flattering. And no matter how many times I removed my gathers and reattached, I could not get it to go away. And this happened both with my voile version and a med weight cotton version. So I threw in the proverbial towel and decided to move on to something else. And then Will and I went fishing. We caught four trout and two spot tail that day.
So I decided rather than letting this fabric go to waste, I would try to salvage as much as I could and make something with the scraps. The most I could get out of my disaster was enough for the front piece of a tank top. And I did have to cut two separate pieces and sew together down the front, but it actually made for a nice little detail down the front. 
For the back of the tank top, I used some of my old faithful white ponte de roma knit from Girl Charlee that I keep on standby at all times. I used the Together Tank pattern from Debbie Brooke Designs for the tank top pattern. This is now my third Together Tank I have made this summer! (Click here and here from my other two). In the end I ended up with something wearable and not a huge pile of fabric that sits in a box or drawer for eternity.
