Peplum Party Dress

Happy Sunday! I am just getting back in town from Greenville, SC where Will and I got to spend the weekend with great friends and celebrate the marriage of our buddy Chad. We are so blessed to have so many wonderful friends in our lives that give us a place to crash at the end of the night, motivate us to get up early on Saturday and explore the outdoors, teach us sweet dance moves, and encourage us to order drinks on Lou Ferrigno’s tab when we don’t have our wallet. (Well maybe that last one wasn’t a good idea, but at the time it made perfect sense). Overall it was a great weekend. And just like last weekend’s Girls Weekend, I was once again reminded that I am so fortunate to have such smart, kind, and thoughtful ladies in my life that I get to call friends. But it’s always good to be home. And I am excited to share with you some photos of a dress I did a few weeks ago: The Riding Peplum Party Dress by April Rhodes. I completed the Riding Peplum top earlier in the Spring (how can we forget the glitzy gold dots top) and loved how it turned out. April’s pattern included a separate piece to turn the top into a dress. So basically it’s like getting a second pattern for free! I followed the pattern directions as written but decided to take in the side seams of the bodice for a tighter fit and then add an invisible side seam zipper.

The fabric I used is by Leah Duncan for Art Gallery Fabric and I purchased it at Five Eighth Seams in Charleston. As I was looking online for the link for this fabric, I realized that A) Leah Duncan was born in South Carolina (what, what!) and B) that I have now either used or purchased six different fabrics from her Tule Collection. This collection was “inspired by Nevada’s vast landscape.” Sooooo I am thinking a road trip to Nevada is in order because I obviously have an unknown love for it’s beauty! This particular fabric, The Flora’s Oasis was perfect because I wanted to use a floral print but didn’t want the flowers to look too juvenile. And also the flowers are all arranged haphazardly so I knew I wouldn’t have to worry about matching up side seams or lining up my fabric perfectly.
