After two extensive Sundays of working on this dress. And then having it taken apart and sewn back together again…it is finally completed! To give you a back story, my good friend Brooke has recently launched her own line of patterns. The first pattern she designed was an adorable birthday dress for girls. But I waited to test out her second pattern, the “My Dress” as this one is a woman’s dress. It’s true. I am a selfish sewer who mostly…err…only focuses my sewing energy into replenishing my closet. Sad but true. But I like to think I am very selfless in other areas of my life. Annnnnyways, so I joined her “test group” to test out the pattern. I learned more about sewing during this test class then I have with any of my other projects. I completed my first invisible zipper. And also used lining for the first time. And I think Brooke really appreciated having the feedback on how easily we were able to work through her pattern. For this dress, I have had my eye on some beautiful green rayon print. I love the way it hangs and moves really well for the skirt part and was a great contrast to the stiffer woven cotton houndstooth fabric that I used for the top part of the dress. Overall I think it is my favorite garment I have created so far and I am beyond proud of the new Debbie Brooke Designs patterns and look forward to many many more amazing patterns that can become selfish creations for my closet!
