My new favorite room in the house is one of the smallest and is currently occupied by two very loud and very messy boys. But we have come a long way from where it was just a few weeks ago and I am excited to share what it looks like now!
It has been a labor of love attempting to fit furniture and fixings for a family of 6 into a 3 bedroom house. We knew immediately that Bear (age 2) and Liam (age 5) would now have to share a bedroom. They were both excited about this idea which made the transition not only fun for them but fun for me and it motivated me to put some effort into redecorating their room.
A few notes about the bed arrangement. Prior to this, Liam had a full size bed and currently Bear still sleeps in a crib (and we are in no rush to transition him to a bed). So while this will be the big boy bedroom, we still wanted to move over Bear’s crib and incorporate some of his nursery-esque decor.
My favorite part of the room hands down is the accent wallpaper from Chasing Paper. This was the one real “splurge” we took in this room but we still saved money by only doing one wall and wallpapering the bottom 2/3rds only and topping it off with a photo/book ledge.
The photo ledge is something we have done before but I have always bought the pre-made ledges from Ikea or Amazon. This time we decided to make out own by following this simple tutorial. Its a great place to store stuffed animals, books, picture frames, artwork, or (as I have discovered) tiny Lego toys you want to hide from your little brother. We also added the abacus that we made for the boys last month (see that post here).
There is a small closet door near Liam’s bed that remained unchanged and then on the opposing wall we moved over Bear’s tiny bookcase which now also houses Liam’s Ghostbuster house. It might not be the most Instagram worthy scenario but books and Ghostbusters are life and we have priorities. Liam also still looooooves to display his artwork in his room so I think my final project will be to get a large bulletin board for above their dresser so he can tack them all there.
Liam’s side of the room takes on a dinosaur theme with the sheets and the art print above his bed but still maintaining shades of whites and blues throughout. We thought it would be a big change for him going from a full size bed to a twin but he never complained once. We were gifted these vintage metal beds from my in-laws and just bought a new mattress to go along with it. Finished off with a print from Mapiful of the constellations on the night he was born and his little corner just makes me so happy.
Now that this room is done, I can get to work reorganizing the nursery for TWO new babies that will be here in less than two weeks. There still is room for a bassinet in here so maybe all four kids can bunk together… just a thought.
Before and After!
until next time…. xx Priscilla
