Looking back on my first pregnancy, I realized that I really never wore many maternity dresses. I spent most of the summer and fall in flowy dresses and shorts that I pretended actually fit me when clearly they didn’t but it was 95 degrees and I didn’t care. And then by winter I wore your classic Friday-night-Netflix outfit: stretchy leggings and a big tee. So I decided recently I would get off the couch, consign my old maternity dresses, and shop around for some dresses that will last both during this pregnancy and afterwards. Here are some quick photos of Liam and I on a day I wore one of my favorites. The key for me when shopping for non maternity dresses is buying either maxi or midi length dresses because the bump is going to do it’s thing and bring the hem up quite a bit. So a mini dress could potentially lead to a peep show. Unless you’re into that sort of thing, then by all means go for it. I have also been going for dresses with higher empire waists that go above the belly. So nothing it tight on the actual belly and I can let the bottom part of the dress flow down and cover the fact that I am gaining baby weight in my hips and back side too. (totally worth every bite of the mashed potatoes I lived off of during the first trimester).
Click here, here, and here for a few more dresses that I have found online that I think would work. I am still on the fence if I want to sew some new dresses that I can wear now pregnant or wait and fire up my machine later after the baby comes. We shall see. But in other news this photo of Liam sitting on his baby brother gives me heart eyes and a look at what life will be like when these two boys are older. I can’t wait. 🙂
dress: Urban Outfitters || sandals: Old Navy (old) || toddler: super cute but needs a haircut.
So happy for you. My advice would be to try to get by with purchasing/sewing as little maternity clothes as you can. When it’s over, it’s over.
love it so cute! I had so many of those dresses the ones with the crinkle top worked great for breastfeeding too! 🙂
