Some people know Montauk as a glitzy glamorous Hamptons beach destination that wealthy New Yorkers escape to on the weekends, while others still remember Montauk as a rustic fishing village with a killer surfing scene. But could Montauk also be a quiet, relaxing family vacation that transports you to the English country side or even to the south of France? Because that’s exactly what Montauk was for us!
This month my family of six, including four kids ages eight and younger, traveled to Montauk for our summer vacation. Always enamored by the tiny ivy covered cottages of the Cotswolds and the beauty of Provence in the south of France, I was discouraged when I realized this year we would save some money and hoard our airline points a little longer, making our summer vacation on this side of the pond. I looked instead for a destination we could drive to from New Jersey and still give us that same “European summer vacation” I was dreaming of.
We were captivated by the beauty of the island, the magic of its rocky shore line, and the charm of our old English cottage that was our home away from home during our trip.
The House and Garden:
The Kitchen:
It was so nice to not only have a kitchen to make lunch, but we also had a wonderful covered patio table in the breezeway to enjoy our meals alfresco. The kitchen is small but mighty and the decor is very French provincial blues and was giving Ralph Lauren on holiday vibes. Will fell in love with espressos for breakfast and I relished in having a place to cut up fruit for breakfast to go along with the 823 bagels we ate each morning.
The Bedrooms:

These photos really speak for themselves! The light airy vibes of the cottage with the blues and whites is a beautiful relief from the beach front “motels” we saw online with their dark printed comforters and very few windows. The Montauk cottage is located less than ten minute drive to both the beach as well as Shadmoor State park which we hiked on our first full day.
I leave this blog post now with a renewed view of Montauk. The charming, quiet, English countryside vacation I dreamed of feels like it came true thanks to the help of our Montauk Cottage!
Aviva also has two other listings that include a Studio Apartment as well as the 4 Bedroom Main House that you can also rent. All three rentals have separate entrance and private bathrooms but are all part of the same magnificent home with the shared backyard and beautiful garden. If you were coming to Montauk with multiple families this would be a great solution to all stay together and still have some time apart.

Thank you so much for sharing! You are absolutely right, there is a very British countryside feel about it! The house looks well adapted to a large family with young children too! Excited to keep following along your next trips!
