I have estimated that I have spent a good portion of my life wearing yoga pants and less than 10% of that time actually doing yoga. For years now it has been my go-to mom uniform: yoga pants, sneakers, and a plain (and most likely old and stained) t-shirt. And while it is still an undoubtedly comfortable option, it has never made me feel put together. Something has always felt off.
So I decided recently to change up my daily mom uniform. Something that is classy enough to wear to grab coffee with a friend or hop on a Zoom call, but also perfect for pushing swings on the playground and running around from carpool and tennis practices and karate lessons.
A well fitting pair of jeans, a white top that is casual but not plain, a light color slide-on shoe or a fun sneaker, and a sweater on top for when it is cold and voila! A new winter Momiform.
It is hard being a mom, especially a new mom or a mom of multiple kids. And I know from experience, taking the time to take care of yourself is easier said then done. I truly believed feeling frumpy in my clothing was impacting my anxiety throughout the entire day. But once I started really getting dressed for ME and not getting dressed because I HAD to, I felt so much better. So take the time to get dressed FOR YOU and no one else, put the kids in the car, safe in the backseat, drive to the Starbucks drive through and say hello to the barista which may be the only adult conversation you have that day but do it for YOU and even if you get nothing else done that day, you will feel a million times better.
I love a good white top with jeans and Boden has so many great choices on discounted sale right now. Here are a few options I put together:
For the Tops: 1. short sleeve detailed shirt, similar one here 2. smocked yoke top 3. ruffle linen top 4. collared jersey shirt 5. long sleeve broderie shirt 6. short flutter sleeve top
For the shoes: I rounded up three different price points from my beloved Sarah flint pumps that are timeless and I will have forever, a fun pair of white and gold sneakers, and an inexpensive yet comfortable faux suede loafers from Old Navy for when there is a chance you may encounter a mud puddle that day and dont want to risk it with your other two options
For my jeans: here are my tried and true Levi jeans. I am still on the quest to find a second option but these have been my favorite for the past year and nothing else has come close!
For accessories: I keep it simple and nothing else shouts “I am a mom of four!” then this necklace Will gave me for mothers day but I absolutely adore it and inexpensive enough to wear all day every day with no fear.
