Following the most recent hurricane wind surge in our area, my summer garden took quite a beating and officially had to come to an end. Spring planting starts in early December so until then the three raised garden beds didn’t have much on their schedules besides to sit there and collect fallen leaves. So I decided to have some holiday fun and this year I transformed our garden into a pumpkin patch/spooky grave yard for the kids to play, explore, and have some fun.
I have a knack for killing mums simply by looking at them so I resisted the urge to fill the boxes with different color mums. I did however pick up these white Montauk Daisies and added them to a simple terracotta planter. Daisies are much more tolerant than mums in South Carolina and they are just as beautiful to use in fall gardens and floral arrangements.
The garden has half artificial pumpkins that I brought down from the attic and half real pumpkins I picked up at Trader Joes and our local church sale. I am remaining cautiously optimistic that the grub worms and squirrels do not get to them all before the end of the month!
Great article.
