With the arrival of the new babies, you may be assuming that I am working feverishly on getting the nursery ready. But instead I have decided to focus my attention on giving Liam’s big boy bedroom a complete makeover in preparation for moving little brother Bear out of the nursery and into his room with him.
Here is a horrible but accurate “before” photo of the current big boy bedroom so you can see what I am working with.
Yes that is orange magic marker on the blinds, random artwork taped to the walls and the ceiling, stained carpet, a plethora of primary color plastic Paw Patrol toys, and a bed with missing headboard and a hand-me-down paisley comforter. Not my best work.
I am ready to finally put some work into this bedroom. To turn it into a shared bedroom that can highlight the two older boys’ likes and interests and also be a room we are proud of. I have scoured Pinterest and the internet for inspiration and here are some that I have come up with.
This was one of the first photos I found and I instantly loved the idea of an accent wallpapered wall behind the beds. Will and I have also decided we are against the idea of bunk beds (if you spend an hour with my children you will understand why). So instead we will be removing the full size bed and adding two twins, similar to this set up.
I loved this idea of white beds with the wallpaper and dark wall paint color. And how precious are these two sisters!
I was inspired by mixing and matching patterns in the bedding and the wallpaper. I love these plus sign sheets from Schoolhouse but I am thinking of pairing it with a striped wallpaper.
I love this area rug under the bed so there is a designated “play space” for the kids as well since we don’t plan on replacing the entire carpet as of now.
The wood paneling, this Jenny Lind bed, and this trunk for toys! I love it all! The trunks at the foot of the beds work for storing toys but also great for setting out tomorrow’s outfits since we are always running late for school.
Here is a mock up “mood board” of the color palates and the look I am hoping to create. I love to do a half up wallpaper above the bed and add these wooden photo ledges to have a designated spot to change out and display some of Liam’s daily art work. We will bring in some of Bear’s art work from his nursery for his side of the room as well and can change things out as their interests grow and change.

There is no real deadline for this project since the babies will most likely sleep in our bedroom for awhile after they are born and we are in NO RUSH to move Bear out of his crib in the nursery any time soon. But I am hoping to spend most of February working on the room because I am simply so excited and I know Liam is too! Follow along on Instagram stories and I will share the finished project here soon! xx
